A great car with some downsides...
I am very tall (6’-7”), and finding a car that I want to drive and fit in can be two mutually excusive things. I shopped a ridiculous number of cars before selecting the Cadillac CTS. I am very happy with my purchase with a few minor exceptions.
Twice, during rain showers the check engine light has come on and the engine loses all power. It runs fine, but can’t get out of its own way on the roadway. The driver’s seat has a strange clunk, which is pretty irritating. The Goodyear RSA’s that came on the car are terrible. I have only 17,000 miles on the car and the front tires have maybe 50% wear left, they are also cupped (irregular wear), causing them to be very noisy. Can’t wait to buy a decent set of Michelins.
The engine and transmission are to die for! I have the 3.6L w/ the 6spd manual (a difficult combination to find). The transmission and clutch are generally very smooth and easy to use and make good use of the available power. I am surprised that the magazines have such slow 0-60 times, because my car seems like a rocket ship to me. The engine has almost bottomless torque available at all RPM. I do have a little trouble from time to time distinguishing 1st gear from reverse. I do wish reverse was over be 5th gear instead. The engine also occasionally feels a little rough at idle.
I have received numerous comments from those inside and outside the car that appreciate is looks and comfort. I know it sound crazy, but some day I hope to take it to an SCCA autocross.
