Beautiful interior and stylish exterior, good performance
Least favorite feature:
Not a true performance convertible (S2000, miata) so it lacks some passing power
Advice to buyer:
A great convertible for 2-4 people, consider a mustang or S2000/miata if you NEED power and performance
Detailed review:
This is a car that you can enjoy as much for its ride as the heads that will turn as you pass by. The new Sebring Lx/Lxi/Limited gets a more powerful engine from the Concorde, a 2.6L V-6 that is 200 horsepower. Chrysler has taken care in making the new design of the Sebring Convertible more stable and smooth compared to the older style Sebring. I owned a 98 Sebring (which is the same model design as the 97/99/2000) and I enjoy it very much. On the new Sebring, Chrysler has tried to stick to the same design and not change things too radically. Wind noise has gone in the 2001 models, the chasis is more stable and handling seems to have improved. Full economy is still lower than you would find on a Miata/S2000/SLK but is still quite reasonable.
Considering an Acura CL, SLK230 or Beetle I finally decided to stick with the Sebring. This is a car that has a beautiful interior, is fun and drive and has some passing ability even compared to V-8 cars on the road. If you decide to choose a Sebring I really recommend the Auto Stick feature. It is very useful if you learn how to use it...downshift to pass slower cars on the highway and upshift when you want to save on gas.
If you want a sportier convertible (with less trunk space and no chance of fitting four adults inside) go with a Miata, S2000, SLK or another true roadster. The Sebring is not a roadster, it is a convertible. What you get in return on this car is an interior that would compare on a Mercedes or BMW, with more emphasis on features and comfort than performance. I see adults, teenagers, men, women and all sorts of people driving a Sebring. One last thing to consider is that you will likely pay a lower insurance rate on this car than a Miata or other performance roadster! Use that money to put in a killer sound system, as the Sebring's 150 watts still leaves a lot to be desired. I need killer bass in my ride :)
Check the reviews carefully before you make a decision on a convertible. This type of car is more sketchy than a coupe or sedan. It's always good to know what you are getting into before you buy a car you'll be stuck with for the next few years.
Sebrings rule...especially Limited Convertibles.
