I finally understand what a crossover is, thanks to the Murano. It’s not just a bloated station wagon. The Murano takes the best elements of SUVs and sedans. Like an SUV, it has strong exterior lines and a command seating position. Unlike an SUV, though, the Murano is graceful to enter and exit. You won’t be fighting to climb into the cabin like you will with more truck-like vehicles. Inside, there are sensible cubbyholes for things like your laptop, small purse and cellphone, plus smart lighting underneath the center console. And levers to flip the rear seats flat with ease. And cool features like an adjustable instrument cluster that moves with the steering wheel. On the downside, the gauges could be easier to read. And the navigation system tends to disappear in direct sunlight. The windows are slightly higher and narrower than you’d be used to on a traditional sedan and make the cabin feel slightly closed in.
