Performance/features bang for the buck. Best AWD buy.
Least favorite feature:
Uncomfortable driver's seat
Advice to buyer:
Very long test drive to assess driver seat comfort
Detailed review:
I took test drives on three different days: in town, on the highway and on hilly dirt roads.
Always drove a 5 speed, always an Outback Sport, which is the model with ABS. The
handling is outstanding, the steering feels tight both at highway speeds and on dirt
roads. Braking is smooth and acceleration is peppy.
Interior is fairly quiet, for a small call, and being used to economy cars by Honda and
Ford, I find the standard power windows/locks to be quite luxurious. Tried to get
the ABS system to kick in, at the dealer's suggestion, but never seemed to hit
the brake hard enough. Regarding AWD, it's summer and the roads are dry so I couldn't put this
to the test, but Subaru's success in this area is well known. The only down side,
from my back's point of view, are the firm, low bucket seats. Sporty maybe, but
uncomfortable for a long drive.
