Expert Reviews
2009 Kia Optima Review
Updates improve this midsize sedan.
"The Kia Optima is solid family sedan transport with comfortable space for four. Its available four-cylinder engine is among the class leaders in output and efficiency, the ride and handling more than capable, and the packaging shows smaller outside doesn't mean smaller inside. It has the best warranty in the segment and, feature for feature it costs significantly less than all of them.

NewCarTestDrive.com correspondent drove the Optima in Los Angeles; Tom Lankard contributed to this report."

"Like Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell, the 2009 Kia Optima is an out-of-the-spotlight player that's fully capable of delivering the goods when need be. Rather than dazzle those in the stands with either a deep-center homer or..."

"YOU'LL LIKE THIS CAR IF...
If you're looking for a four-door sedan with responsive driving characteristics, a lot of features and an attractive price, the 2009 Kia Optima should be on your shopping list. It's handsome, offers impressive safety features and represents a good value for the money.

YOU MAY NOT LIKE THIS CAR IF...
If you absolutely crave attention, the Optima's new exterior, which some may describe as subtle, still may not grab your eyes – or anyone else's. And, despite generous interior volume for the category, this midsize package won't be big enough for larger families."

Customer Ratings and Reviews
"We had two prior Kia Optimas ( 2001 and 2004). We just bought two new ones loaded 6 months ago. The cars handles great on highway and in city driving. Electronic Stability control and ABS brakes is a vital plus. Power is more than adequate with the 4 Cyl. engine. Areodynamics on this car is outstanding on highway driving. You can pass a semi rig on the road with out the usual swaying and buffeting as you pass through the Rig's turbulent wind stream plus cross winds have little effect on the cars.

The ride is smooth not mushy yet still maintains a sporty feel on curvy roads. Handling is excellent in most conditions. Only draw back is the tires in the snow and wet conditions. They just don't seem to have great traction in those conditions although they offer good long wear.

Reliability is excellent on the service from the cars. Don't expect to visit the dealership much except for oil changes. The cars is just that reliable and well built plus you have an outstanding bumper to bumper ( 5 year/ 60,000 miles) warranty range just in case.

Our Gas mileage on the highway averages about 31 MPG at 75 MPH while traveling on long trips. In city driving is adequate at around 16 to 19 MPG in stop and go driving. Seating is very comfortable for long trips or just stop and go driving. No fatigue problems at all. Quite pleased with our purchases. "
