2009 Pontiac G8 Review
Well-engineered sports sedan with rear-wheel drive.
"The Pontiac G8 succeeds with rear-wheel-drive performance, style, four doors and plenty of room. If the style, space and comfort is all you seek, the base G8 is a good choice, gets better fuel economy and runs on Regular gas. Our preference was for the GT model. We enjoyed its powerful V8. It handles well yet offers good ride quality. The GXP is fun, but not ideal for commuters in metro areas, especially with the manual gearbox.

Sam Moses filed this report to NewCarTestDrive.com after his test drive of th"

"Thanks to a long line of uninspiring products over the past couple decades, Pontiac -- ostensibly GM's "driving excitement" division -- acquired a rather unfortunate reputation as fodder for rental-car fleets. But that's been c..."

YOU MAY NOT LIKE THIS CAR IF...
Sticklers for ergonomic detailing may quibble with the positioning of some of the minor control switchgear in the G8's interior. While its standard OnStar system provides for proprietary hands-free calling and Turn-by-Turn navigation, there's no stand-alone navigation system."

Customer Ratings and Reviews
"I drove this immediately after driving a BMW 5 series. The Pontiac has dynamics equal to the BMW, has more room and a superior sound system."

"This is a big car with lots of interior space and a large trunk. You can put 4 people and their luggage for a week's stay in this can and still have room left. It's performance specs are almost identical to a BMW 550, and the ride is great - looks like BMW no longer has a lock on the ride/handling suspension tradeoff! There is no way a 2 ton car should handle and accelerate/stop as well as this car does.(0-60 in just 5.2 seconds) Additionally, it's a very quiet car when traveling on the interstate - 70 mph sounds just like 90 mph. The Blaupunkt stereo (11 speakers/240 watts) with XM sounds great and is easy to operate. This is the best car Pontiac has ever built. Too bad this is the last year for this car and Pontiac, too."
Jim S - September, 2009
Fredericksbrg , Virginia

"After taking possesion of the car two weeks ago I have come to appreciate it more each day.I had considered a BMW 3 series and Mercedes 'C' Class. The handling, performance and power is far superior and the price just seals the deal. The interior is elegant and the sound system is just plain fun with the 11 speaker blaupunkt system. If you test drive this car with ether the V6 or V8 power plants you will find quality standards will not fail you."
