The Matrix is aimed squarely at younger buyers who live on a tight budget but still love to get out and go places. It is a 5-door, sport SUV that is priced like a compact sedan. It can accommodate four people comfortably or can be configured to haul everything from bikes to surfboards. Of course you get all the technical gadgets Toyota is famous for and the reliability factor and oh, don't forget the great resale value. But the real reason to buy this SUV is that it's just plain hot!

The standard engine is a 130-horsepower variable-valve four-cylinder engine, which can be teamed to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic; All-wheel drive is optional. Save your pennies for one more summer and you might be able to afford the top-of-the-line Sport model. This bad boy has the Celica's 180-horsepower engine and 6-speed manual transmission tucked neatly under its hood. Toss in the all-wheel drive and you'll have one of the hottest SUV's around. The PT Cruiser might have the look, but the Matrix will definitely be able to deliver the goods.
