Kia Motors will introduce its sixth model-line to the US market later this year. The Optima is a mid-sized sedan intended to compete in the already crowded mid-sized segment. The bait Kia is hoping the public will take is the price. Although not yet announced, Kia promises to deliver a high quality, value-packed sedan for thousands less than a comparably equipped Toyota or Honda.

On paper, this would seem to be the case. The Optima comes with two engine choices: A 149-horsepower four-cylinder and a 170-horsepower V6. Both engines can be ordered with either a manual or automatic transmission. Two trim levels will be provided. The base LX model includes standard air conditioning, power windows, power door locks and power mirrors. The upscale SE adds alloy wheels, fog lights, moon roof, cruise control and premium stereo with CD. Kia's 10/100,000 Long Haul Warranty is standard, which should add an extra measure of security for those who decide to give the Optima a chance.

Still, as the old saying goes, the proof is in the pudding.
