Edmunds.com 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Overview

Introduction:

Mercedes is adding a convertible model to the line-up for the 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Identical in size to the two-door coupe model introduced last year, the convertible matches the coupe's engine options: a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque for the E350 cabriolet and a 382-hp 5.5-liter V8 with 391 lb-ft for the E550 cab. While the BMW 3 Series, Infiniti G37 and Lexus IS now have retractable hardtops, Mercedes has elected to stick with a traditional soft-top. When open-air motoring is desired, the cabriolet roof folds into a special compartment behind the rear seat panel. Passengers are likely to appreciate Mercedes' new AirCap, a feature that consists of two components: a wind deflector that extends from the top of the windshield by 2.4 inches and a draft-stop between the rear seats. The AirCap's wind deflector looks a little silly when deployed, but it's very effective at reducing wind intrusion with the top down. Also present is Mercedes' Airscarf, a feature first introduced on the SL and SLK roadsters; it shoots warm air around the neck through outlets in the front passengers' head restraints. The 2011 E350 and E550 cabriolet models go on sale in the spring of 2010, with the regular sedan and coupe body styles arriving later in the year.
