Sporty, all-wheel-drive small cars were nothing new when Subaru launched the turbocharged Impreza WRX in 2002, but it was this model that was a genuine hit with the masses. Though it could be dolled up to resemble Subaru’s rally car, the WRX was a bit of a sleeper, something that your English teacher or Uncle Bob might’ve driven because it added a little sport to the practical all-wheel-drive package. That being said, there was, and continues to be, no shortage of WRXs stretching their legs on winding roads and racing clocks at autocross tracks across the country. Indeed, it’s that well-tuned balance between track car and daily commuter that has positioned the Impreza WRX as a true standout.
