TO THE POINTWhat's New? Plop the M3's powerful inline six, a hydraulic rather than electric steering system, a revised suspension, and styling tweaks both functional and decorative into the BMW Z4, and the result is the excellent new M Roadster. Selling Points: Tons of torque, macho looks, impressive handling Deal Breakers: High price, lacks refinement, only a tick faster than a stock Z4
Engineers get kudos for the BMW M Roadster's top design. Not only is it easy and fast to use, but it doesn't consume the entire trunk when lowered. Simply push a button and the top goes up or down in a mere nine seconds if you leave the windows down. Continue to hold the button and after a short delay, the windows raise for a total time of 13 seconds when putting the top down and 15 seconds when raising the top. The top does not hide under a body color panel, instead folding neatly into its designated space forward of the trunk lid leaving the canvas top exposed.
