Model Mix
Available in Extended and Crew Cab configurations, the 2008 Dodge Dakota can be ordered in a variety of trim packages that should satisfy buyers of all types. The entry-level ST features steel wheels, cloth bucket seats, rear ABS, air conditioning, and an MP3 player. Options include rear jump seats on Extended Cab models, four-wheel ABS, and side-curtain airbags.

Buyers who long for basics such as power windows and power door locks will need to bump up to the SXT, which also offers standard 16-inch alloy wheels, tilt steering, cruise control, and those rear jump seats. For a little extra coin, the SXT Dakota can be fitted with heated seats, full-swing rear doors on the Extended Cab (open to 170 degrees), a bedliner, a utility rail system, a sliding rear window, Sirius satellite radio, and a Class IV tow package.
If that’s not enough, check out the SLT with its fog lights, the utility rail system, a limited-slip rear differential, the sliding rear window, Sirius satellite radio, power seats, an alarm system, and a trip computer; Crew Cab versions feature collapsible and removable storage bins that fold into the floor. The SLT avails access to an updated V8 engine, 18-inch chrome wheels, Chrysler’s MyGIG entertainment/navigation system, a remote start system, and a 508-watt SoundBox audio unit.
Off-road enthusiasts will gravitate to the 2008 Dodge Dakota TRX, which sports fender flares, tow hooks, a unique grille, and aggressive rubber. Four-wheel-drive models include skid plates for the engine, transmission, transfer case, and fuel tank, as well as heavy duty cooling and battery power. Buyers can opt for rubber floor mats and a full-time 4WD system.
Near the top of the Dakota line is the Sport model, which adds a body-color grille, 17-inch wheels, enhanced seat bolsters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Unique interior accents are also available, as are 18-inch black wheels.
The most feature-laden Dakota is labeled the Laramie. Drawing power from a standard V8 engine, the Laramie boasts a chrome grille, leather upholstery, 276-watt Alpine sound system with steering wheel controls, and a bedliner. The options list includes goodies such as heated seats, full-time 4WD, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
