First Drive Q&A: 2010 Lexus HS 250h

The world's first dedicated luxury hybrid (is not just an upgraded Prius)

Is it a Lexus version of the Prius?

You'd think so, but Lexus insists it's not, saying that the HS 250h is an entirely different car, built in a different factory. Unlike the Prius, it boasts an independent rear suspension, sedan body, and different dimensions, although the identical 106.3-in wheelbase makes us a little suspicious. It wouldn't be the first time that Lexus had cribbed from a lower-priced Toyota model; the Lexus ES series has always been based off the Camry platform, but built in a separate factory. There's likely more in common between the two cars than the company wants to admit, but for now there's enough difference that we'll give Lexus the benefit of the doubt.
