Mercedes-Benz – it’s a name that has long been synonymous with luxury, precision, refinement, and to many, quality. In an effort to deliver that image to the less affluent masses, the entry-level C-Class was born, redesigned for 2008 with a more aggressive and sophisticated look which emulates that of the larger S-Class. Add in available all-wheel-drive and a few nifty features, and you’re looking at what should be a competitive vehicle. However, that’s not the case. Attractive though it may be, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trails the competition in terms of driving dynamics, the layout and operation of certain controls, and thanks to questionable materials, its ability to deliver the level of quality befitting a luxury marque.
