TO THE POINTWhat’s New? A larger and more powerful V6 engine, four-wheel independent suspension, and full-time/four-mode four-wheel drive Selling Points: Nice style and interior, adept off-roader, advanced safety equipment, great warranty Deal Breakers: Fuel mileage is not so great, V6 exhibits whine and occasional lack of punch Our Advice: Put the 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara on your small SUV short list
Based on the Concept X-2 that debuted last year at the New York International Auto Show, the 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara stayed close to the overall look of the concept enough so that you can see a relationship between fact and fiction. Exterior design highlights include large fender flares, and a blended light display, both front and rear. The rear hatch opens from the side, and the spare tire is kept on the back hatch. Overall, lines are smooth and taut, with a conservative bent much like all other SUVs.
